Géographie minéralogique de la France / [par] Lavoisier et Guettard, 177-?

Manuscript, probably mostly in Lavoisier's hand, but also in the hands of Guettard and others. Contains extracts from scientific reports, letters, etc. on mines and minerals. Vol. 2 contains, under "Lorraine", an account of Lavoisier's trip with Guettard in 1764, probably his first participation in scientific investigation. Vol. 2 also contains a fairy copy of an early memoir of Lavoisier, Observations sur la minéralogie de la Picardie, which he read to the Académie d'Amiens in 1770. These vols. were probably used by Guettard in preparing his Atlas et description minéralogiques de la France (1780). Bound in half calf, spine lettered in gilt.

2 v. ; 33 cm.
